Part-time Officer, Jacob Bavin

What’s your favourite thing about Winchester?

What I love most about Winchester is its rich history. Whenever the weather is nice and I have some free time, I enjoy taking a walk through the historic streets to the Cathedral.

Part-time Officers have no pre-defined portfolio, but together with the rest of the elected executive committee, will discuss and propose areas of work for the Union, ensuring that all students are represented. Alongside representing student views generally, Part-time Officer's chosen areas of work will be defined via their manifesto promises.

You can contact Part-time Officers to give voice to feedback about any area of your student experience, to ask questions about any area of the Union's work or to provide them information that you feel will allow the Union to provide for student need.

More about Jacob:

What did/do you study?

I am currently studying Primary Education with QTS at the University of Winchester.

What SU run events and activities have you been a part of?

I have been fortunate to be involved in a range of Students' Union activities, including Stars, One Winchester, the Officer Review Panel, and a Student Experience Collaborator. Over the past year, I have also had the privilege of serving as one of your elected Students' Union Officers, and I look forward to continuing to represent you this year!

What are your top Manifesto points?

My top priorities are strengthening student voice through more visible, transparent Officers and expanding opportunities for students to shape the Students' Union. I also want to improve affordability, wellbeing, and inclusion by continuing my existing campaigns that support commuters, student safety, and accessible SU activities for everyone.

What made you run in the Elections to become an officer?

I chose to run again because my experience as a Students' Union Officer in 2025/26 was incredibly rewarding, and it inspired me to continue making a difference. I'm approachable, open-minded, and passionate about ensuring every student feels heard, represented, and has equal access to the opportunities the Students' Union provides, while bringing fresh ideas to enhance student life!

What has been your proudest moment during your student journey (so far)?

WOW! That's a tough question - there are so many moments I've been proud of throughout my student journey. If I had to choose just one, it would have to be being elected as a SU Officer for a second year in a row. It's a real privilege to continue representing and supporting students!

What do you like doing when you aren’t being a Winchester SU Officer?

I'm passionate about history, especially family genealogy, and I'm currently researching my family history. I also enjoy playing golf and I am taking lessons to develop my skills.

What's your favourite film?

It is too hard to give just one because they are all too good to choose, but I would say my top 3 favourite films have to be either Mamma Mia, The Imitation Game or Newsies!

What’s your favourite book?

Again! It is too hard to find just one book that is my favourite, so I will have to say it is either Sceptred Isle by Helen Carr or Willie, Willie, Harry, Stee by Charlie Higson.
