Wintonian's Guide to WInchester

Historical Huzzahs presents: The Wintonian's Guide to Winchester. Join your guide Martin, (Univeristy of Winchester Student 2014-17) as he takes you on a City Tour to let you discover a Winchester most fail to see. A City of history, secrets and literature!

The tour begins at the Student Union where members will be led into the City Centre via Peninsula Square and the Great Hall. As the group moves down through the City Centre they will find the hidden architecture that most people miss in their day-to-day lives. The history of this classic City will be explained and past events revisited with when exploring many of Winchester’s greatest landmarks such as; the Great Hall, West Gate, the grounds of Winchester Cathedral, The Kings Gate and The Butter Cross.

Tour Members will not just visit the sites but will also be told about the gruesome executions, mass poisonings and other darker stories that most other guides fail to mention. Feel your stomachs churn as you hear the bloody tale of how Winchester Collage killed the Dean of Winchester.

Furthermore, but you’ll also find out about Winchester’s appearance and role in literature and film through the ages. You will visit the bookshop where Jane Austin’s Father bought books, see the ‘East Gate of Paris’ from Les Misérables and step on the stone slabs that Benedict Cumberbatch has stood.

A fantastic and entertaining introduction to our beautiful city for all those new to Winchester this September.

The tour will meet at 1:45pm in the Terrace Bar.
