On the 2nd June, the University of Winchester announced that, subject to any government mandated restrictions, it was their intention to welcome students onto campus and student accommodation in September. The University also acknowledged that appropriate social distancing measures will be in place to facilitate a ‘covid safe’ campus.

Winchester Student Union is excited that we will be able to move forward with a University experience starting in September, and alongside the University, welcome new students into the Winchester family. It is likely however, that due to social distancing measures and to ensure the safety of our members, staff and officers, the Union may not be able to provide its usual breadth of social and extracurricular activity.

Whilst we are content that we will be able to provide exceptional student-led and student-delivered services to support your student experience, in some instances these may be in a new or different format, including virtual. This may include changes to our regular event provision, such as Freshers Week and club nights, and other organised activity such as our activity groups, bar provision, and representational forums. We would like to reassure you that as soon as we know what we can realistically, safely and legally offer, we will inform our members accordingly. We wouldn’t want to make assurances we could not maintain or would be unsafe.

We are currently reviewing the whole range of services and activity we provide and are resolved to release a further statement within 5 working days of this article, with more clarity on our service provision for the academic year ahead, including a series of FAQs

Best wishes and stay safe,
