University Mental Health Day

Uni mental health day

University Mental Health Day is a national campaign day for student mental health. Since starting in 2012 it is now run jointly by Student Minds and UMHAN (University Mental Health Advisers Network). The aim is to inspire conversations and create ongoing year-round change. Whilst awareness is increasing, there is a lot more to be done to address the existing gaps in knowledge and the support available for students.

Being a student can be fun, rewarding and fulfilling, but we also know it can be challenging, stressful and at times, overwhelming. There are over 2.3 million students studying in UK universities, with many experiencing academic, social and financial pressures.

Student Wellbeing is a top priority for the Student Union, your wellbeing matters and is important to us. We want your student experience to be the absolute best it can be, so please reach out if you are struggling. Remember that everyone needs support at some point and we can all practice positive self-care techniques.

Throughout the day we'll be showing recent campaign videos in our venue, from Time to Talk Day and #BOYSDOCRY. These campaigns are just a few of the steps Winchester Student Union has taken towards removing stigma.

Here at your Student Union we also run Student Recharge Days: dedicated days designed to support you through relaxation, guidance and stress management. Student Recharge Days offer you the opportunity to take a break from studying to focus on your wellbeing and are a great reminder of the importance of slowing down in the busyness of University life. Our next Student Recharge Day is taking place on Monday 16th March 2020, keep an eye out for more information!

In the meantime, check out our suggestions below on what you could do to prioritise your mental wellbeing this week:
