Hi, my name is Harry and I'm your Student Union President. Today I’ll be talking about a fairly sombre subject. This subject is one of significantly grave importance around the world, and even in the UK. The purpose of this article is to highlight how vital a campaign such as this is to many women around the world.

This is a campaign run by the Freedom Charity, and it aims to take on a variety of quite terrifying issues that cause many – all around the globe – pain and suffering. This includes dishonour-based crime, forced marriage and the horrific mutilation of female genitalia. The last one is often abbreviated as FGM, though this does nothing to stifle the severe injustice of the appalling operation.

On Wednesday 25th January at 1pm in the Stripe Auditorium, there will be a special event held by Aneeta Prem. She is the founder and President of Freedom Charity, and was instrumental in changing government policy around the issues above.

All are invited to come along. I and the entire Student Union would highly recommend that this is a cause worth learning more about, and fighting for. The eradication of these harmful issues is something that we should become more aware of. We’ll be getting involved in whatever way we can to support Freedom Charity, and strongly encourage you all to do the same.

Details are below. See you on the 25th January.

You can visit the Freedom Charity website here: https://www.freedomcharity.org.uk/

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
