Merry Xmas To You All!

Hi there! My name is Harry Sampson and I’m your Student Union President. Today I’ll be talking very briefly about the great semester we’ve had, as well as wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.

However, it all isn’t over just yet…

Today we have a special extended Terrace Bar Live Session starting at 2pm, as part of the DRINK THE BAR DRY event taking place all day, starting right now! We’re doing reduced drink prices (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) all day while the Terrace Bar is open. It’s also completely free entry, so make sure you come on down before it gets too busy!

Before you all go on to have a very happy time away relaxing from student life, don’t forget to look back and reflect. For a good portion of us, going to University is the first time we’ve felt real independence, and that can be as scary as it is skill-enhancing. Look back and savour those great memories, but also don’t forget to also look back and think on what you could have done better.

We’ve had the truly fantastic Fresher’s Fortnight, topped off with a huge Fresher’s Fayre for all our favourite sports teams and societies. BOP and all our events have been bigger and better than ever. Go Green Week emphasised the vital importance of looking after our environment and planet, including a rather artistic photography competition. There was PLAYMATES Week, featuring a stigma-shattering set of videos made by your exec team for #BoysDoCry. Rainbow Laces showed our commitment to diversity and inclusion in the world of sport and beyond. Student Fellows Projects are in full swing, with Student Academic Reps fighting your corner every step of the way.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. But don’t worry, there’s plenty more to come.

Myself and your team continue to lobby every day to make new campaigns and methods of engagement to combat hate and fight for student justice. For example, Sam is hard at work preparing for Student-led Teaching Awards, Kayleigh is getting work done for Fairtrade Fortnight, Tali is about to close the Student Housing Survey and discover what we’ve found out, while I continue to plan with the Uni a new institution-wide respect campaign.

We continue to be there for you, whether you want to chat about welfare or indeed anything else. Our door is always open to you all, so please don’t leave us waiting – pop on in and pay us a visit!

Now, that was a good semester. Fancy another one?

Good. I hope you’re ready for round two starting in January!
