Student Union Statement: Strike Action Thursday 10th May

The University and College Union (UCU) are striking tomorrow on Thursday 10th May. Our lecturers and University support staff are joining millions of other public sector workers across the country in defence of public services and pensions justice.

However, although we support the Strike in principle and have regularly showed solidarity and supported strike action held by UCU, the Student Union have always stressed that the Student experience is our priority and we could never support an action which jeopardises a student’s ability to progress or graduate. Attack on a Student:

A female student was attacked and possibly sexually assaulted in Stanmore Lane on Wednesday 29 February between 10.30 and 11.30pm, near the New Queen’s Head pub and the Winchester Family Church.

The University and the Student Union are liaising with the Police who are also appealing for possible witnesses. The student was wearing a brown leather jacket and green skirt. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Laurie Firman at North Walls Police Station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Fortunately, such incidents are rare in Winchester but please take care when out at night…
