We are working in partnership with the University and local government to ensure all students are aware of their right to vote in forthcoming local elections.
In May several local elections will be taking place in Winchester. These elections are an important part of local democracy and your voice will help shape local and regional decision making for the next few years ahead.
These elections will be held in Winchester on Thursday 6 May 2021. This will be a combined election including the postponed Police and Crime Commissioner elections for Hampshire, Hampshire County Council’s scheduled elections for councillors, and the postponed Winchester District and Parish elections for councillors.
If you are resident in Winchester whilst studying at the University, you will be eligible to vote in these elections, but you may need register. If you live in Southampton or East Hampshire (not currently available for Winchester Addresses) you might alternatively use the register to vote service provided by JISC, www.studentvoterregistration.ac.uk – this a specific service designed for student use.
The important deadlines in these elections are:
Registering to vote – this must be done by Monday 19th April
Postal Votes - the deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday 20 April 2021
Voting by proxy - the deadline to apply to vote by proxy is 5pm on Tuesday 27 April 2021
