More about Charis
What do you study?
I study Musical Theatre and I am in third year.
What SU run events and activities have you been a part of?
I am a member of the Christian Union [which works alongside the Student Union], and have been elected Chair StAR for my course next year.
What are you top Manifesto points?
My top manifesto points focus on academic representation, and supporting students wellbeing throughout their university experience.
What made you run in the Elections to become an officer?
I honestly hadn’t even thought about running. I knew the elections were about to take place, but thought it wasn’t for me. I then received an email about the elections, with a brief overview of the responsibilities of a student officer, and was immediately interested. I have loved being able to represent the needs of my course as a StAR, and felt like I would enjoy taking that one step further.
What’s your favourite thing about Winchester?
My favourite thing about Winchester is the small and friendly community. I love that the city itself is so small, and that everyone knows everyone. There are also so many coffee shops to meet up in for such a small town, which is a big positive in my opinion! What better way to build community than with coffee and cake!
What has been your proudest moment during your student journey?
My proudest moment at Winchester so far isn’t really a moment, but a progression. I’m really proud of the confidence I have gained whilst being in this beautiful city. I am now able to stand up in front of my course and sing a solo, or successfully campaign for an election, things i never thought I would do or be able to upon arriving at uni.
What do you like doing when you aren’t being a Winchester SU Officer?
A really important of my life is my faith and my church. I am heavily involved in Christ Church, just over the road from the university. I sing in the worship band, and will start volunteering with a kids group this year. Aside from Church, another thing I enjoy doing is dance. Whilst it is part of my course, I find choreography to be a great stress reliever!
