Update – changes in COVID-19 guidance, 09/09/20
Winchester Student Union are aware of the recent changes in Government COVID-19 guidance regarding social gatherings, and the new limit of 6 people (the rule of six). We have been monitoring the messaging and guidance throughout the day, and are now content to update on our position.
We are aware of the impact that this latest update may have on some of our activity groups (Sports Teams, Societies and Representational Networks) and how they train, play and gather. We have addressed this in Sports Team Committee Training today (9th September 2020), and will be addressing this in Society and Network Committee Training tomorrow (10th September 2020). If you have any questions or concerns about the impact on your provision, please email SUActivities@winchester.ac.uk and we will do all we can to assist.
Throughout the day, we have been monitoring how the guidance changes may impact our events that make up our Freshers Week provision. We are now content that the safety measures that we have already implemented are robust enough; to reiterate, there will be no groups or tables of larger than 6 people at our events, social distancing will be implemented, hand sanitizer will be freely available and face coverings will be required when moving to and from our venue (although not inside). We are confident that the measures that we had already planned will allow our events to go ahead in a safe and legal way, and as such will be proceeding with them as planned. We are pleased to hear that the Department for Education is finally releasing re-opening guidance for Universities, and look forward to working with the University of Winchester in the coming weeks to welcome students back to campus.
