Our new Student Listeners are trained up, ready to re-launch the scheme in September! Four Student Listeners introduce themselves and share why they wanted to be involved…

Whether you are preparing to start University as a new student, or you are going to be returning to Winchester in September, sometimes we all need a little help and support along the way. It’s not always easy to know who to reach out to, but talking to, or hearing from, a fellow student who understands all the ups and downs of student life can be a great way to offload anything that is concerning you.

Student Listeners is a peer support scheme run by Winchester students, for Winchester students. All Student Listeners are trained in listening and helping skills to provide them with the knowledge and confidence to offer informal and confidential support to fellow students during term time.

Four of your Student Listeners - Sanah, Julia, Liz and Marthe introduce themselves:

Hello, I'm one of the new student listeners. My name is Sanah, I am a psychology undergraduate student going into third year. I like painting and drawing and going on long walks. This summer I plan to walk every day to a new place each time. I wanted to become a student listener to help other students through university and also help develop various different skills such as my confidence and my listening skills. One thing I'm excited about for next year is going into third year and being an active student listener. I can't wait to help people out and just listen to them.

Hello, here's a little bit about me - my name is Julia Tryjankowska and I study Psychology. In my spare time I really enjoy cooking and baking. I wanted to be a student listener because I like offering a helping hand and a listening ear. One thing I am excited about in the year ahead is the opportunities I may receive and new people I will meet.

Hi, I’m Liz, I am a mature post grad student and have just completed my Professional Doctorate in Theology & Practice. I am finishing the revisions, so am officially around until the end of 2020. I chose to become a student listener because I know how tough and lonely being a student can be, whether you are young, old, first year or post grad. Having someone to talk to and who will listen without judgment can be very helpful in your journey. I like to listen to others and hear their story.

Hello! My name is Marthe, and I study Creative Writing here in Winchester. I'm from Norway, and I love knitting and crocheting or reading a good book. The reason why I wanted to become a Student Listener is because no matter how big or small the issue is, everyone should have someone to talk to about their problems. I'm looking forward to going back to Winchester and meeting everyone who wants a chat!
