Here at your Student Union, we are coming to the end of your 2020/21 elected Executive Committee’s time in office. Check back every day until the end of June to read their end of year updates! First up is Student Officer, Louise Williamson:

I’m not quite sure where this year has gone, when I finally went back onto campus after over a year away in May, it seemed like it was both yesterday and a million years ago since I last saw the SU building. I am so happy that life (fingers crossed!) is going back to a little bit more of normality.

When I was elected in February 2020 I don’t think anyone could have predicted that my entire term in office I would be at home due to a global pandemic, even with the strangeness of the last year, I’m so glad I ran for office when I did. I haven’t been able to fulfil my original ideas as planned. However I’ve gotten to work with amazing people and sit in on some meetings that I know will hopefully never have to happen again. The Exec Committee of 20/21 had a long, hard road but I am so pleased with some of the things we have accomplished.

The highlight of my time in office is by far my work on the No Detriment Policy, speaking with other students on the matter, being involved in meetings with senior management and making petitions, it has made me feel closer to the university and I’m so glad they listened to us.

I didn’t quite imagine my time at Winchester ending in this way, with overall only 6 months on campus throughout my entire degree (it must be a record!). Yet I can safely say I am leaving on a high, even given the circumstances. Thanks for sticking by us for the past year, it’s been a true joy to represent the student body.

Good luck to everyone in your future endeavours and hopefully see you all at graduation in October (please COVID)!

Winchester, over and out!

Louise
