Representation for students is one of the main reasons that the Student Union exists and we are the main representative body for students at The University of Winchester. Elected officers of the Student Union attend committees and working parties at all levels in the decision making structure to input for students.
Student Academic Representation (StAR)
For academic subjects though we share the responsibility with you - through your Student Academic Representatives (‘StAR’s). Students elect StAR’s each year to speak at meetings for the whole group. Reps are therefore empowered, as they represent the majority of students as a group. It’s not a great time commitment so YOU should think about volunteering.
There are numerous benefits in becoming a rep and here
are just some:
• You’ll be at the cutting edge of what’s happening (you’ll be ‘in-the-know’) and you’ll have real influence to solve any problems on your course and also make it better for the future.
• You will feel great - knowing that you are doing a vital service for all the students on your course.
• You will enhance your skills and probably learn new ones whilst being a real member of a decision making committee.
All this is useful for your CV!
