MORE ABOUT EMILY

Officer Role

Vice President, Activities & Services 2022 – 2024

What did you study?

BA (Hons) Classical Studies

What SU run events and activities have you been a part of?

During my time as a student at Winchester I was part of the Winchester Lions, holding the committee title of Captain for two years, as well as being a member of the Winchester Spirits cheer team. I was also involved in the StAR scheme, being a representative for my course throughout my time at university, going on to be chair for my last two years. I was also a regular attendee of BOP, making the most out of my post COVID final year.

What are your top Manifesto points?

  • Intersectionality – we already have a vast number of sports targeted events, I will provide our societies and networks with the same opportunities. Ensure equal opportunities are available to all activity groups.
  • Student Voice – increase student voice in the zones I oversee with committees and open forums.
  • Student Led Services – ensure that all of our commercial services are tailored to what students need and want. Increase student-led events. To work on night-time safety to ensure all students feel safe and comfortable.
  • Volunteering – create a volunteering scheme where students can gain additional life skills and aid in career progression.

What made you run in the Elections to become an officer?

From being involved with the Student Union in my third year through being an elected Student Officer, I saw first-hand the change that the Union can have and how much our involvement impacts the overall Student experience. Holding the role of Vice President, Activities & Services for the 22/23 academic year made me realise there is still so much I want to do to make the student experience at Winchester the best it can be which made me run for a second term, to continue the work I have started this year.

What’s your favourite thing about Winchester?

My favourite thing about Winchester is how small and friendly it is, coming from a small hometown I find Winchester perfect as it is not an overwhelmingly big city. Winchester is also such a beautiful city, filled with history and architecture, there is always something historical to discover around every corner. There is also plenty of greenery and countryside which makes me feel at home!

What has been your proudest moment during your student journey?

As cliché as it may be, it has to be being elected as Vice President, Activities & Services for two years but also how much I have grown during my time at Winchester. I never would have thought I would be in the elected position I am in now and my time at Winchester has given me the confidence and ambition I needed.

What do you like doing when you aren’t being a Winchester SU Officer?

I love spending time with family and friends outside of the office, having a cocktail and keeping active.

What's your favourite film?

All the Star Wars films!
