Sshh... Continuing efforts...
As part of continuing efforts of Winchester Student Union to work closely with the local community, to help ensure and maintain the quality of living of all in Winchester, we have taken the decision to re-launch the campaign 'SSHH' - Silent Students Happy Homes. This is also part of our response to recent concerns expressed by residents regarding noise problems arising from students leaving our venues and walking home through Sparkford Road.
By re-launching the campaign, the Union and University wishes to re-affirm and implement our mission of 'working closely with the local community to ensure that the University and City are seen as a united body who work together for all in Winchester'. The campaign will be promoted at our Fresher's Fare in September by the union Welfare Officer and continued through events at the Union.
The University is also making efforts to resolve some problems with litter on Sparkford Road which in part is created by students. It is investigating the possibility of establishing a 'community warden' scheme covering the streets bordering the campus.
The campaign is designed to impress upon students that we are a part of a wider community and that there is a need to act sensibly and respectfully when walking through the City.
The material enclosed was produced with help from The University of Winchester, PubWatch and Hampshire Constabulary. Please feel free to display these materials in such a way that they can be seen from your near-by public pathways. We believe that the visual reminder to students as they are walking through our streets will help reinforce the message that this campaign is trying to communicate.
