- Be the prime representative of the Student Union.
- Attend the Board of Governors, Academic Board and other relevant university committees, and report back to the Student Union.
- Normally lead delegations to conferences and meetings to external bodies.
- Liaise with the National Union of Students and the local NUS Area organisation.
- Supervise the General Manager of the Student Union.
- Meet the university management regularly, and report back to the Student Union.
- Encourage students to join and get involved in the Student Union.
- Whenever possible, ensure the Student Union works as a motivated team and encourage executive committee members to work to the best of their ability.
- In conjunction with the General Manager, draft the Student Union annual budget, and monitor the expenditure in conjunction with the VPAS
- Be a cheque signatory to the Union account.
- Ensure that the Student Union accounts are audited annually, and that these are presented to the Board of Governors for information.
- Be the official spokesperson of the Union to the media and other external bodies.
- Co-ordinate the Union’s work in relation to the University’s quality assurance process.
- To be pro-actively involved in campaigning on a local and national level on issues specific to Winchester Student Union or instigated by other affiliated and relevant organisations.
- Publicise the clubs and societies in the union, encourage students to participate.
- Deputise for the president in their absence.
- Be responsible for any clubs and societies that are formed in accordance with the relevant schedule of the Constitution.
- Be responsible for the allocation of grants to clubs and societies and Student Union commercial services.
- Monitor the expenditure and activities of all clubs and societies and Student Union commercial activities.
- Submit reports to the executive/council on the funding and activities of clubs and societies and the financial performance of the Student Union’s commercial activities.
- Issue guidance and advice to clubs and societies officers on organisational, promotion and financial matters.
- Help students to set up new clubs and societies.
- Be responsible for overseeing and giving feedback to exec on all commercial activities.
- Organise a clubs and societies forum to discuss new ideas on the development of clubs and societies.
- Attend all clubs and societies Annual General Meetings.
- Ensure clubs and societies have a profile at all student induction events.
- Assist clubs and societies in their administration with external bodies where necessary.
- Establish and maintain contact with, and provide information from, groups and organisations which work on welfare issues.
- Establish an enquiry service, and advertise its availability on each of the sites. Maintain and order stocks of information as required.
- Deal with, but DO NOT counsel, students who have welfare problems, respecting confidentiality at ALL times.
- When necessary, refer students to the university counsellors or other relevant organisations.
- Attend any relevant training/briefing days for Student Union Welfare Officers.
- Campaign on, and raise awareness of, welfare issues as agreed by the Executive Committee e.g. debt, safer sex, drug/alcohol abuse, etc.
- Distribute general welfare information.
- Liaise with the Student Services section and, when necessary, university management.
- Keep up to date with developments in the field of Student Welfare to ensure a contemporary knowledge specific to this area.
- Be responsible for actively campaigning on a local and national level on welfare issues specific to WINCHESTER STUDENT UNION or instigated by other affiliated and relevant organisations.
- The Academic Affairs Officer shall:
- Assist the President in dealing with students’ concerns, aspirations and problems in relation to education provision.
- Liaise with the university on the monitoring and review of the student charter and any regulations governing the conduct of students.
- Liaise with Departmental Heads and the Student Union R.P.C. Co-ordinator on developing and maintaining a system for the election, training and the induction of responsibilities for student academic representatives.
- Develop and maintain systems for regularly gathering student opinion on the quality of their course and the institutional provision of support services. To regularly raise these findings with the Parent institution.
- Be a member of the Academic Board and/or any other bodies established by the university which have a bearing on the education of students.
- Be aware of political discussions surrounding the Higher Education sector.
- Keep up to date with developments in the field of Academic Affairs to ensure a contemporary knowledge specific to this area.
- Be responsible for actively campaigning on a local and national level on academic issues specific to Winchester Student Union or instigated by other affiliated and relevant organisations.
- In conjunction with any relevant staff members, assist with the organisation and publicising of a variety of entertainment and other social activities to reflect the interests of all sections of the student body.
- Assist the R.P.C. Co-ordinator with relevant clubs, societies, companies and organisations which may be advantageous to students.
- Establish and maintain contact with relevant officers at other universities in the area.
- Establish and maintain contact with NUS Ents.
- Liaise with the relevant staff to ensure that all social activities are well publicised to ALL students, including those at other sites.
- Carry out research with students at the beginning of the year (and throughout the year) and design an entertainments programme for the whole of the year on the basis of information received.
- To ensure that entertainment events can be used as a medium to actively promote campaigns on a local and national level on student issues specific to Winchester Student Union or instigated by other affiliated and relevant organisations.
- To aim to increase participation in Winchester student Union and run activities by students from all areas of the university
- To organise and supervise the establishment of new sports teams and societies in Winchester Student Union.
- To assist the Vice President Activities and Services in the management and regulation of sports teams and societies and other activities led by Winchester Student Union
- To co-ordinate volunteering opportunities within and outside of Winchester Student Union and where possible to co-ordinate with the University's volunteering co-ordinator.
- Focus on promoting the extra curricular activities run by the Student Union.
- Attend all club and societies Annual General Meetings.
- Ensure clubs and societies have a profile at all student induction events.
- Assist clubs and societies in their administration with external bodies where necessary.
- Be responsible for actively campaigning on a local and national level on student development issues specific to Winchester Student Union or instigated by other affiliated and relevant organisations.
- Will be responsible for Student Media within Winchester Student Union, including the Student Radio, Newspaper, etc.
- To attend any relevant University committees and working groups.
- To assist with the promotion of Student Union welfare and education campaigns as well as entertainment events and other matters covered by the executive committees remit.
- Be responsible for all matters of communications and marketing between the Union and its members and the local community.
- Consult with student representative bodies and other national bodies on communication matters and keep the relevant Committee(s) aware of them.
- Consult with Union Officials to advise and be advised on matters of communications and marketing and publication development.
- Will be responsible for all matters involving the environment regarding Winchester Student Union.
- Will work alongside the General Manager to ensure a working towards award as a minimum in the Sound Impact awards scheme.
- Will attend any relevant University committees and working groups.
- Establish/maintain contact and provide information from groups and organisations which work on equal opportunities and environmental issues.
- Be responsible for actively campaigning on a local and national level on equal opportunities and environmental issues relevant to Winchester Student Union or instigated by other affiliated and relevant organisations.
- Ensure that the views and opinions of students who suffer discrimination are reflected throughout the Student Union’s work.
- Campaign on issues to ensure that every student is treated equally by the university, students, and the Student Union.
- Shall be responsible, along with the General Manager, in ensuring that Fair Trade products are used in Winchester Student Union whenever possible.
- Shall be responsible for ensuring that the University upholds its Fair trade Status.
- Shall be responsible for ensuring that the University upholds its Equal Opportunities policy.

All Members of the Executive Team Shall:
- Actively promote the work of Winchester Student Union to its members, the University and to the local community.
- Be responsible for the publicising of information related to their specific area, with the assistance of the staff of Winchester Student Union.
- Be accountable to the Union Council.
- Offer knowledge and assistance to other members of the Team with the endeavour of creating quality service and support for the members of Winchester Student Union.
- Be responsible for other duties outside of the portfolio as laid down by the executive committee and the Union Council.
- Ensure all students are treated equally, regardless of their race, gender, sexuality, disability, age, ethnic origin, religion or creed in line with our equal opportunities policy.
