The Equal Opportunities Officer shall:
• Ensure all students are treated equally, regardless of their race, gender,
sexuality, disability, age, ethnic origin, religion or creed.
• Ensure that the views and opinions of students who suffer discrimination
are reflected throughout the Students' Union's work.
• Campaign on issues to ensure that every student is treated equally by the
college, students, and the Students' Union.
• Organise, as required, a forum/group for students to meet to discuss equal
opportunities issues.
• Establish, maintain contact and provide information from groups and
organisations which work on equal opportunities issues.
• Promote the positive involvement of all students who face discrimination in
all areas of the Students' Union's activities.
• Represent the views of students who face discrimination to the Students'
Union and the college.
• Liaise with the college, and ensure an input into the development,
monitoring and review of the college equal opportunity procedures.
• Keep up to date with developments in the field of Equal Opportunities to
ensure a contemporary knowledge specific to this area.
• Be responsible for actively campaigning on a local and national level on
equal opportunities issues specific to Winchester Student Union or
instigated by other affiliated and relevant organisations.
