How to get to Winchester Students' Union

  

We are based on the main (King Alfred) campus at The University of Winchester: 

Sparkford Road, Winchester, Hampshire, SO22 4NR - Tel 01962 827418. 

 

All visitors must report to the University Reception upon arrival. 

 

The University: also has two satellite campuses close by:

 

Very close is:  West Downs Campus Romsey Road, Winchester, SO22 5HT

(Approx a 7 minute (Steep) walk from main campus)

 

Nearby is: Basingstoke (Chute House) Campus, Main Road, Basingstoke

(20 minutes drive from main campus via the M3)

By Rail from Winchester Railway Station: (approx 8-10mins by foot to main campus - or taxis available at station).

From the main exit turn right into Station Road leading into Upper High Street and follow the path. Turn right to cross over the rail bridge and then left into Clifton Terrace. Cross the main Romsey Road and head straight accross to walk along St. James's Terrace pathway. Follow the path to the end and turn right up the hill (St James' Lane). Cross to walk through West Hill Cemetery. The University College is situated opposite the far gate of the cemetery.

 

By Bus and Coach (from Winchester Bus Station):

Proceed along Broadway towards and through to the top of the pedestrianised High Street. Turn left into Southgate Street. Cross St Clements Street and take the right turn into St James Lane. After the railway bridge take the footpath through West Hill Cemetery as above.

 

By Car:

If travelling from North, South or East of Winchester, approach the College from Junction 11 of the M3. Take the B3335 following signs for Winchester. Pass through St Cross and take the first left after the garage on Ranelagh Road. Pass under the railway bridge and take the right fork into Sparkford Road. The University College is on the left, with the main ("The Dytch") car park entrance after Milnthorpe Lane, and main reception next left.

If visiting from the West, approach Winchester along Romsey Road. After passing the Royal Hampshire County Hospital turn right into St James Lane. After a sharp corner turn right into Sparkford Road. The College is on the right.

 

Bus and Coach:

Main bus and coach routes stop at King Alfred's Statue in central Winchester. The walk to College takes approximately 15 minutes. On alighting proceed along Broadway and through the pedestrianised High Street. Turn left into Southgate Street. Cross St Clements Street and take the next right into St James' Lane. Proceed up the hill and just after the railway bridge take the footpath through West Hill Cemetery. The University College is situated opposite the far gate of the cemetery.

 

Taxis:

Taxis are regularly available from the Railway Station and Broadway near the Bus Station past King Alfred's Statue in the city centre.

 

Parking Requirements and Permits:
Visitor parking must be reserved in advance during term time due to limited spaces.  Vehicle permits will be issued for display in windcreen. 

(Temporary permits will be issued for all promoting stallholders on arrival if required at Freshers Fayre or similar Studnet Union events).
