Hello from The Angels, the Women’s Basketball team!
We work hard, we have fun and most importantly we succeed!
This page includes a detailed description of different areas for Women’s Basketball. A short and sweet version is available on the ‘Join’ page. :)
Trainings:
The Angels have 2 trainings a week (2 hour sessions), with an optional 3rd training during the weekend. Our trainings enable us to build up on all the basic fundamental skills, increase our fitness and learn new plays. Our weekend trainings tend to lead to individual work with the coach. We work hard; we keep focused, and have fun! Our beginning sessions tend to be focused around building up our fundamental skills and making sure no one is confused about the rules of the game. As the season goes on, our coach will increase the level of difficulty and trainings will become more focused on areas we need to improve on the most.
Coaching:
This past year we have had 2 coaches, both guys led us to winning games (yes… plural) for the first time in 4 years. Both coaches not only worked on our level of skill but increased our confidence to a level that we never thought any of us could reach. By coming to training with a range of drills already planned and communicating well with the captain and team as a whole, our coaches have enabled us to improve after each session and always pushed us to work as hard. With one returning coach, Dan, the current Men’s Basketball 1st‘s captain, each session will be organised in a way which all players will be able to improve in. We will form a correct balance of fitness, fundamental skills and the new skills needing to be reached in order to achieve the winning season we are all hoping for.
Matches:
During the entire season, we have fun taking part in a league called BUCS. This league includes University teams from all over the South West of England. Some teams are harder than others but each game leaves us with points we have done well in and others which we need improve on. When Dan does not have a match of his own, we are lucky to have him at most matches, which is so imp due to the games getting intense morally and physically. This past year we have also taken part in other University competitions, such as Rising Ballers which we hope to take part in again this year. No matter a win or a loss, we have fun we work together and each match leads us to ways we can improve as a team and individually.
More information about training days and times will be given during Freshers Fayre in September!
