You know how we do...

I’m sure by now you either attended it, knew someone who did, saw pictures of it, read a Tweet about it, saw a Facebook status about it or just simply heard about it on the news. Let’s face it you know what I’m talking about as it seems that the National Demo really has gone nationwide (or stateside actually as CNN got hold of it too).

So let’s clear a few things up then. 1 - No Winchester student set fire to a flare/crashed into a glass window/sat in the road/climbed on to a bus stop roof/spat on a policeman/dropped a fire extinguisher off a roof/battered a few randomers/caused any nuisance. And point 2 - Ditto.

In fact, all we and 50,000 others did was march a short distance (really, the route was tiny!) and shout a fair bit about the ridiculous financial demand being placed on future students. Yes, we yelled till we lost our voices (Andrew Emmerson). Yes, we waved our banners around like the end was nigh (Hope Jennings probably has guns the size of China now). And yes, we made sure we told the coalition Government who we were, where we came from and what we wanted (although I admit that after 73 renditions of ‘Oh Winchester, is protesting’ even I grew sick of it a little) but the point is this is ALL we did.

So it makes me bloody irate to see that all the papers want to concentrate on is the despicable actions of the MINORITY of random anarchists who started trouble at Millbank after the protest. Giving these sorts of people this sort of attention is like spoiling a child who is naughty and ignoring the well behaved one. It’s irrational and it’s simply unfair. I will not tolerate these people ruining the hard and fair work of good natured students and staff and you shouldn’t either. So here’s what we do if you agree with me… We tell ANYONE that will listen that the Winchy lot were nowhere neeeear the incident and we reiterate that the MAJORITY of those attending the demo only had the intention to take part in the peaceful protest before this, and did.

This is also not a done deal for us who care about the future of the Education system - far from it in fact - so keep your eyes peeled and your ears to the ground for the announcement of the next movement… These boots really were made for walking, and that’s just what we’ll do.
