E&E @ Winchester
Hi Everyone!
Hope your summer is going well! Kudos if you are on the website reading this during summer! You are keen! If any of you are a new student, or a potential student checking Winchester out! Then hello i do hope you make it to the university, where the union will help you meet your social, emotional and academic needs!
Now I’d hope that most older students will have a good idea of who i am, But those of you who don’t, I’m Andrew Alan Emmerson, a Politics and Global studies student going into my final year (Scary FYP times ahead), I’m 21, (22 on 20 December, presents welcome).
As Ethical and Environmental Officer, i am responsible for ensuring that the union follows best practice in being as green and environemtnal as possible, within the union and to its studnets body, i alsways try and keep a fresh approach to what im doing, i know it’s never gonna get people jumping and dancing and there is a great risk of lecturing, something i’ll never do if i can help it, i jsut want to get you aware, get you smart and help you save the planet and your pocket!
I’m still a part time student, so i will be working and doing my role, so please bear with me at times, i may want to hurt someone or something with the stress of my course work!
Most of you will know i’m a Liberal Democrat, but my role here and that are two completely different things, that don’t influence each other! I also have a strong interest in the National Union of Students and all news that concerns students. So any political discussions or concerns about where students are going then give me a shout and im sure to have an insight on it!
As far as Ethical And Environmental Issues, i was re-elected this year to continue last years hard work, some of our achievements included Several Big Tidy Ups, the formation of a new environmental group, changing of the constitution, the setting up of the student switch off campaign, and most massively we are the greenest student union in England.
So this year the question is how do we make it better?
Well there is many things in the pipeline, including bigging up our student switch off, getting the message out to you students on just how not to do your bit, but do your lot.
We have green week earlier in November, there’ll be a blog on that with in the new few weeks! that will include themed events, competitions, and film nights!
We obviousness have our goal to beat a certain Scottish uni in our sound impact awards, the only ones who could beat the small but mighty Winchester. We will also be auditing the university to ensure they are gonna go as green as possible, and follow the students good example!
We are also tracking plans on looking at getting a source of renewable energy, either a turbine or solar panels, as a way to help us produce our own energy!
If any of you are Eco-Mentalists a bit like i am, or have any ideas or anything you’d wanna see go, as well as many of my own ideas and goal please feel free to message me, email me, tweet me, or facebook me!

Or just find me back on campus from September 11th, in the mean time like many of my fellow existing students, i’m working hard over summer (6 days a week) just to earn a few pennies for when i get back!
So take care, lots of peace and love and don’t forget me!
