Semester Two is finally here and believe me, Week 1 was a struggle for all of us! But here at Winchester Student Union we are still committed to engaging with our students and ensuring that their voices are heard.
With a number of our forums including ACAS, Ethical and Environmental and the Disabled Students forum having already taken place ready for this semesters Student Senate, the voice of our students is always at the forefront of our minds.

With that being said, I would like to give you the opportunity to read about two events that are occurring this semester the first being very soon indeed!

Student Voice Day 2017 is a chance for students to;

  • Give feedback to University departments that they may not always be in contact with.
  • Discover “behind the scenes” areas of the University and how they work, such as Housing and Environment and Catering and Digital Marketing.
  • Find out about areas that students can engage with such as REACT and The Student Fellows Scheme
  • ALSO be in with a chance of winning free entry to BOP!

This is a great way to get your voice heard straight and hear about what goes on within The University of Winchester straight from the horse’s mouth.

All students will be given a “Stamp Card” and asked to visit each area, on handing in of these cards, students will be entered into a draw to win free entry to BOP!

The event will be taking place between 11am and 3pm all across the University Centre and we really look forward to hearing from all of those who attend.

The second event is The Student Led Teaching Awards,

for which the nominations for have just opened and will remain open for the rest of the semester. This incredibly successful event has been running for a few years now and this year is looking to be just as successful.
The awards list is as follows;

  • Enrichment Activity of the Year
  • Best Use of Resources
  • Best Lecturer for Constructive and Efficient Feedback
  • Best Delivered Module of the Year
  • Programme/Course Administrator of the Year
  • Most Helpful Professional Services Staff Member
  • Future Focus Award
  • Equality in Access Award
  • Sustainability Education
  • Research Supervisor of the Year
  • Personal Tutor of the Year
  • Inspirational Lecturer of the Year
  • Programme of the Year
  • Faculty of the Year

A new award has also been introduced this year with the title of the “Sustainability Education” award. This award will be given to an individual that promotes sustainability education and best practice; equipping students with the knowledge, skills and attributes to be sustainability leaders. This award also looks to reflect the more “green” values that both The University of Winchester and the Student Value holds.

So to round off nicely, I sincerely hope that as many of you as you can can get involved with these events and, as always, please do contact me via email: Samuel.chivers@winchester.ac.uk or visit us  at the SU office on Level 3 of the University Centre.
