Professor Neil Marriott, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Winchester:

“I’m pleased to say all students who were housed in temporary hotel accommodation have now moved into permanent accommodation. We gave students at Liberty Point in Southampton £550 as a goodwill gesture in recognition of their unforeseen travel expenses.

“On behalf of the University I would like to apologise to our students for any inconvenience caused. We experienced an unprecedented demand for accommodation from insurance and late applicants this year, and the normal withdrawal rate has not been experienced. The University’s Student Housing Team worked tirelessly to secure permanent accommodation for these students as soon as possible, and I hope all the students are now settling in.”
