Hi, my name is Harry and I’m your Student Union President. Today I’ll be talking about the Student Union Awards. Each year, the Student Union Awards are held to celebrate the achievements and successes of students, StARs and societies. From community engagement to society events, the SU Awards recognise the diverse accomplishments of our student body.

The nominees for these awards are passed to the Student Union through an online survey held in March/April. In total, there were 458 separate nominations, encompassing 18,000 words over 60 pages! This is a phenomenal result, showing how much our students have worked to enhance the student experience.

Looking through these many nominations, it was extremely tough for us to decide a shortlist for each award. We have everything from activities that engaged the local community to student academic reps who went above and beyond the call of duty to better represent their peers. Societies have put on fantastic shows, grown massively in members and embarked on new adventures – whether travelling across the country or intensifying the fun and excitement here in Winchester.

Anyway, while I go on about how great you have all been, I have one thing to say…

Congratulations to all those who were nominated! The societies and individuals that have been shortlisted have all been emailed by the Student Union. I will list them below, so make sure you check them out – I wasn’t originally planning to do an article on this, but I really feel that celebrating the success of our students is paramount. I will be putting down the winners on a separate page following the event.

It is highly recommended that if you have been shortlisted that you attend the event in case you win – if a society, sending a few representatives is also advisable. If you know someone who has been shortlisted, make sure you come along Monday to support them.

On Monday 22nd May in the Vault we will be hosting the SU Awards Ceremony to finally reveal the winners of each category. It will be a wonderful evening and only costs £3. This event starts at 7pm – the dress code is smart, so remember to dig out your favourite suit or dress. Tickets before the event will sell fast, so make sure you get in there quickly!

Tickets are available on the following page, at a cost of £3 each: http://www.winchesterstudents.co.uk/events/student-union-awards-2017.

Finally, thank you for the great work you’ve put in to the Winchester student experience. I look forward to see you on 22nd May.
