“My name is Henry and I am your elected Vice President, Activities. Here’s a quick-fire guide as to why you should engage with your Student Union during your time at The University of Winchester.

When I joined University, I signed up for multiple sports teams and societies. It was honestly the best decision I have ever made. It is fair to say that you meet plenty of people who are on your academic course, but why not put yourself out there and sign up for one or more sports and societies at fresher’s fayre, it will immediately put you in touch with people who have similar interests!

Participating in extracurricular activities is a crucial part of a holistic university experience and it is now my job to help you get involved!  There are so many opportunities, all of which involve meeting new people and potential friends for life! You can email us at SUActivities@winchester.ac.uk or pop along to the student union office on level 3 of the university centre for an informal chat about all the opportunities that are open to you.

The course and degree element of university is crucial no doubt, but there’s so much more you can be doing to boost your satisfaction, overall university experience and even your employability. Employers will be keen to see what your studied, but equally important is how you engage with fellow students and whether or not you have been on committees and helped organise events during your spare time. This can all be recorded on your HEAR (Higher Education Achievement Report) which all students have access to!You can participate competitively in BUCS, keep fit with training sessions or share interests with fellow students in societies. Activities range from day time hobbies such as Yoga, Football, Ultimate Frisbee and Video Gaming to name but a few, to nightlife entertainment with Bop on a Wednesday.

So study hard, but don’t forget to engage with the Student Union activities in order to optimise your University experience!”
