We sat down with singer-songwriter, Luke Sital-Singh on the first day of his Coffee House Tour, here's what he had to say!

You’re at the start of your coffee house tour at the moment – how’s it all going? Do you enjoy life on the road?

I think it’s going really well, this is the best university I’ve been too so far, I’ve been to one other! Obviously it’s only the first day of a 2 week kind of tour but I’m really looking forward to it. I haven’t done a ‘proper tour’ for some time so it’s really nice to be going again though.

Your last EP “Breakneck Speed Of Tomorrow” has recently been released with Huw Stephens giving the lead track “Still” its first radio play on BBC Radio 1 as his “hottest record in the world” did you expect to the receive such a great reaction?

It was a huge shock but I was obviously incredibly grateful. When we heard it was going to be made the “hottest record in the world” we had about 24 hours to campaign before it became the hottest record in the world. He has always been very supportive though and he is a genuinely lovely guy giving lots of help to growing artists

Where do you draw your main inspiration for writing your songs?

Mostly from my life, there have been good times but also really bad times so I think it’s quite vague but I just write about whatever moves me

How long have you been making music for? Did you always want this career?

Think I probably started really wanting to do it about 14-15 years old, 27 now – quite a long time really. Just under 10 years I was seriously trying to do it. I only really started working properly maybe 3 years ago. It’s a great feeling I try not to take it for granted and I know not many people get to make a living doing what they love. I would say for most of my adult life I wanted to do this, there was a bit before that were a wanted to be an actor always standing on stage as I was a bit of a show off. I like performing, I love music.

What musicians influence you growing up?

When I was growing up and a fan the first thing I liked was rock, and nu metal wheres Slipknot and Korn was around, you don’t really hear that in music now but it’s there somewhere, I’ll come out with some nu metal stuff one day. The first singer songwriter stuff I heard was Damien rice, he was everywhere, couldn’t get away from that guy - Had a real connection to my life, that kind of point where you start getting emotional, so it’s really stuck with me and I wanted to do that kind of music. Ever since then I just love any singer songwriter especially the old guys like Neill Young, Nick Drake, Elliot Smith, James Taylor, Bob Dylan, and more kind of contemporary chaps like Bryan Adams. I’m really obsessed with the style it’s so simple, the purity of seeing someone do it right is incredible

What have you got planned for the year?

Coffee House Tour for the next two weeks and then, I’ve got a more traditional kind of tour which I’m looking forward too, I haven’t really gone out and done a traditional tour since the start of the year. Then I’m making another album, I was nervous and anxious about it but now I’m really looking forward to it, some of the plans are coming together and I’m getting a bit of a start going. That should be written and hopefully down by the end of the year but it won’t be out till early next year hopefully, I just want to get it done and make it good!
