Coffee House Session - Jacob William

What inspired you to start a career in music?

I didn’t really start out as a career choice, it was more like I love music and I figured I could create a career out of it.

Name your top 3 influences and why?

Jeff Butley, I love his voice, and he has an album which is just him and guitar. Stevie wonder, he’s just a genius! Jack Nicholson, because he is cool...

How are you finding the Coffee House Session Tour so far?

The first session was okay, there were a couple of things that went wrong so hopefully the second one will be better. And you’re turning on the Christmas lights which is exciting

There are a lot of dates over a short space of time, do you find it challenging as a vocalist to maintain your stamina and not get tired with the packed schedule?

Ask me in a week! Haha They have actually added more dates; I now have 25 dates instead of 23.

Have you toured before?

I used to work on cruise ships. I had to sing 3 hour sets a night every night which was intense.

You released your short film ‘Don’t Let Go’ in 2013, what inspired you to make the film and how did you go about composing the sound track for it?

I was getting kind of frustrated because I worked as an actor and a musician, and I was playing at lots of weddings and doing lots of cruise ship gigs and I knew I could do stuff as a writer too. As an actor I was getting lots of weird roles and I thought I could do so much more. So I thought I am going to write my own thing, it started with this character Tom who was in a wheelchair and I wrote his diary over a week where he meets a girl and falls in love. So I then wrote all my songs around that! We made the video for £500.

What are your plans over the next coming months?

We are releasing the single ‘Break the Glass’ in January; we made the video last month. Finishing up the Coffee House Sessions Tour here, get some sleep and enjoy Christmas, and then just see where it goes. We also have some interest from BBC Radio 2 which will hopefully give us a little more advertising.

For those who enjoyed your Coffee House Sessions, do you have any more gigs planned soon?

Yeah I am playing at Tabaco Festival this Sunday 22nd; it’s pretty huge festival in London with expensive food but great for music. I’m also doing lots of TV gigs in connection with Coffee House Sessions. Other than let you can have a look at my film which is on my website.
