Registering with a GP

If you’re moving away from home while studying at Winchester, it’s strongly advised that you register with a local GP - especially if you have an ongoing health condition. Students are also encouraged to be vaccinated against Meningitis ACWY before starting University.

You can choose to register with one of 3 surgeries –

St Clements Surgery is located on Tanner Street, Winchester.

Call: 01962 852211

St Paul's Surgery is located on Alison Way, Winchester. There is also a Pharmacy onsite for added convenience.

Call: 01962 853599

Friarsgate Practice has a surgery in Weeke and a surgery in Badger Farm.

Call: 01962 871730

You can view NHS GP Patient Survey results here.

The NHS App lets you book and cancel GP appointments, order repeat prescriptions, check your symptoms and view test results.

You can also now make contact with your Doctor online 24/7, more information on Econsult can be found on the website of the GP Practice that you are registered with. For minor health concerns pharmacists can offer general advice which will save you having to wait for an appointment. While it can be helpful having the hospital so close to the University, you should only attend A&E in an emergency. The Urgent Treatment Centre in Southampton treats a similar range of conditions as the previous Minor Injury Unit. If you are in any doubt over where to go, talk before you walk by calling NHS 111.
